Cottage of the week – Lamp Cottage

Cottage of the Week really involves nothing more than finding a stunning property in a lovely location. Unfortunately, with over 10,000 properties in the UK alone and only 52 weeks in the year, we’re a little spoiled for choice, so it takes something particularly special to make it into this feature. We think Lamp Cottage in Derbyshire more than fits the bill.

Not only is the property completely immaculate both inside and out, it’s set in the grounds of the historic Leahurst Estate, the former summer residence of Florence Nightingale and her family. The property is approached down a private driveway through a meadow and a gate leading to a gravelled parking area. You enter Lamp Cottage via a large entrance hall and from the south west you’ll see incredible views across the Amber Valley. And while the gardens and meadowland surrounding the property are perfect for a relaxing stroll, you’ll find even more to enjoy further afield.

Within a mile of the property is the World Heritage site that houses the world’s first water-powered cotton spinning factories. The delightful town of Matlock Bath, which boasts smart riverside cafés and bars, is just under 4 miles away. Here visitors can experience a cable car ride up to the amazing Heights of Abraham and admire the incredible views of Derbyshire.

Not that you’ll be short of stunning views at Lamp Cottage. Along with the aforementioned views of the valley, the kitchen opens up to a fantastic south facing conservatory style dining area that in-turn opens up onto a large wrap around patio. A large teak table and chairs, a custom steel barbecue and a well-stocked herb garden cater for any alfresco dining requirements, in addition to sun loungers, fire heaters, spacious lawns and stunning views.

The living room also opens onto the patio and lawn and features a wall-mounted wood-burning stove that creates a truly relaxing atmosphere. There is a further study/TV room with board games and a cloakroom.  The spacious, well-equipped, modern kitchen offers granite worktops, tiled floors and all the mod cons you need to cook up a storm.
