Cottage of the week – La Jaumarie

If a recent surge of interest in Dordogne holiday cottages is any indication, it seems there may be such a thing as a ‘Little England’ factor. A new 12 part ITV show, Little England, concerns a group of ex-pats who’ve moved to a corner of Dordogne in such numbers that it’s now known locally as ‘Dordogneshire’. So for those interested parties we thought we’d highlight one of our many featured holiday cottages in the region for Cottage of the Week.

La Jaumarie in Vergt doesn’t do things by halves. Not only does this magnificent detached manor house stand in an elevated position, offering panoramic views from the swimming pool terrace over four acres of private garden, but it’s also ideally situated to explore the beautifully tranquil surrounding area.

Historic towns with quaint cobbled streets are the order of the day in the surrounding area. The cathedral town of Périgueux and Bergerac are perfect examples of this and both are also easily accessible from the property. If you fancy something even more tranquil, the Dordogne Valley offers opportunities for canoeing, visiting many famous châteaux and exploring the local vineyards that produce some of the finest of French wines. The countryside town of Vergt, in the heart of the Dordogne, is a few minutes’ drive away. Perhaps most famous for its strawberry production, it has good shops and large supermarket to stock up before you return to relax at your holiday cottage.

La Jaumarie offers a fully authentic experience of Dordogne life. It’s remarkably well-preserved, offering exposed beams, tiled floors and a wood-burning stove, with French doors to the terrace and landscaped garden. Up to 11 guests can be accommodated in its light, airy and comfortable bedrooms and you’ll find plenty to keep everyone happy: The outdoor pool is perfect in the summer months; if you’re feeling competitive there’s table tennis and if you’d rather laze about there are sun loungers, satellite TV (French only), a DVD player, CD stereo and Wi-Fi.

If you fancy taking a tour of ‘Little England’, or fancy a more authentic experience of the Dordogne region, then La Jaumarie will most definitely suit your needs. To find out more, or make a booking, take a look at the property’s listing on cottages4you.
