101 places to go – The Yorkshire Dales

A stunning collection of peaks and river valleys with a wealth of natural history and heritage – there are many reasons to visit the Yorkshire Dales. So many, in fact, that it seems a little redundant to recommend it on ‘Yorkshire Day’.

In truth, the Dales are stunning enough to warrant 365 Yorkshire Days a year (366 on leap years!). But no matter, one of the joys of taking a break in the Dales is that it allows you to explore it at your own pace. And taking as long as you want to explore ‘God’s Own County’ lets you soak in all that it has to offer.

We’ve made a couple of suggestions for some of our favourite things to see and do in the Yorkshire Dales but we’d love to hear yours – so please leave your suggestions below!

• As beautiful as The Dales are, some of its most treasured locations are hidden underground. Take a trip to White Scar Cave and see a wealth of hidden gems at the longest show cave in Britain.

• At a higher altitude, but no less impressive, Malham Cove is a huge limestone formation that towers over the surrounding countryside. It’s worth scaling the cove to see the incredible limestone pavement at the top. In fact it’s such an enchanting view that a certain Harry Potter stopped off there in the Deathly Hallows Part 1.
