Cottage of the week – The Shank

Since it’s Recycle Week this week, and this year’s theme is ‘Recycling – Home and Away’, we’ve chosen one of our greenest featured properties for Cottage of the Week.

The Shank in Fritton, near Great Yarmouth, is not only lovely holiday accommodation in its own right, but with rainwater harvesting, grey water recycling, triple glazing throughout and thermostats in every room, it’s also the definition of a guilt-free indulgence. And if that weren’t green enough, it’s also nestled amongst the fairways of the fantastic 400-acre Caldecott Hall Golf Club & Country Estate.

With so many opportunities for recycling, you’d be forgiven for wanting to offset that goodwill with some much-needed relaxation. Thankfully, The Shank is happy to oblige. How does an outdoor hot tub on the veranda with impressive views of the golf course and the historic Waveney Forest sound?

Though it boasts two 18-hole golf courses and a driving range, Caldecott Hall is not only a golfing paradise; there are also well-stocked lakes, with ’catch and release’ fishing permitted (with prior notice). The estate’s manor house is also a three star hotel, bar and restaurant. Get fit or relax at the Barnworks Fitness Studio and Spa (with heated swimming pool) which are available at concessionary rates.

Over the road, you’ll find the stunning Tudor-Jacobean Somerleyton Hall and Fritton Lake Estate, with gardens, mazes and one of the biggest freshwater lakes in East Anglia. The seaside resort of Great Yarmouth is only 5 miles, while the cathedral city of Norwich is only 20 miles from your door.
