Cottage of the week – Rhos Barn

As regular viewers of the BBC’s flagship annual nature series, we don’t believe spring starts with snowdrops, ladybirds, cherry blossom or the nesting of rooks, it begins with Chris Packham and Kate Humble presenting Springwatch from some of the UK’s most stunning natural locations. Now in its seventh series, Springwatch 2011 began on the 30 May, broadcasting from the wonderful Ynys-hir RSPB reserve in Wales. But, as much as we enjoy Springwatch, we admit it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. So while it played a large part in choosing of Rhos Barn as our new cottage of the week, the many other attractions at the property sealed the deal.

Set in the rolling Welsh countryside at Crugybar, near Llanwrda, Rhos Barn offers stunning views of the surrounding area. Formerly owned by pop legend and keen ornithologist Billy Fury, the property offers a unique bird-watching tower that current owners have converted into a gothic folly. So even if you haven’t brought your binoculars, it’s still a great place to pass the time.

If you fancy a more proactive exploration of the Welsh countryside then you will no-doubt be delighted to hear that Rhos Barn is set on a 100-acre farm in Carmarthenshire, with a variety of outdoor pursuits available in the surrounding area. The Brechfa Forest is within easy reach and offers delightful woodland walks and cycling opportunities. Higher altitude thrills can be found in the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park, which is equally accessible from the property.

Those after unrivalled relaxation will be equally well catered for by Rhos Barn. Even without scaling the summits of the Beacons, or wandering through the Welsh wilds you’ll still feel the benefits of a leisurely soak in the private hot tub. The children’s games room is equally well suited to ensuring younger holidaymakers have a fun-filled holiday.

Rhos Barn sleeps 4 happy holidaymakers and accepts up to 2 pets. If you fancy relaxing and enjoying some of the UK’s most beautiful landscapes and spring wildlife then you can find out more info and make a booking on the property’s listing on cottages4you.
