101 places to go – Stratford upon Avon

We think we’ve discovered possibly the most English thing possible for this week’s entry to ‘101 places to go’. Which is good, because not only is 23 April St George’s Day, but it’s also the recognised birth date of William Shakespeare – one of history’s greatest Englishmen. So it seemed only fitting to choose the Bard’s home of Stratford in Avon for this ultimate celebration of Englishness.

We’ve listed a couple of our favourite things to do in Stratford-upon-Avon. Have you been? Let us know what we’ve been missing by leaving a comment below!

• A river ride on the Avon is one of Stratford’s premier pastimes in the warmer months. But it’s not all about messing about on the river; you can see some of Stratford’s most beautiful sights from the comfort of a rowboat on the Avon.

• If you fancy something a little more exotic then Stratford Butterfly Farm is a great place to flutter by. You can see hundreds of the world’s most beautiful species enjoying the wild topiary – not to mention, in Arachnoland, a few more creepy crawlies!
