Cottage of the week – Rockfield Cottage

As it’s St Patrick’s Day on the 17th, we thought it only right to focus on one of our featured properties in Ireland for cottage of the week.  Whether you’re a seasoned visitor to the Emerald Isle, or a novice, keen to begin an exploration, we think you’ll be equally satisfied with what Rockfield Cottage in County Meath has to offer.

The property is only an hour from Dublin, which is the perfect place to learn more about the life of Ireland’s patron saint. There’s St Patrick’s Cathedral, rumoured to be the first place he performed a baptism in Ireland, but also a beautiful example of medieval architecture, with a stunningly ornate interior and an equally interesting history. If you’d prefer something a little more personal to St Patrick then the National Museum of Ireland contains a few items thought to have belonged to the saint.

If you fancy going further back in time then the landscape surrounding Rockfield Cottage contains the ‘Seat of the High Kings of Ireland’, a collection of ancient monuments perfectly framed within the stunning green surrounds of County Meath. Of course, myth has played a huge part in creating the legend of this historic site, but once you experience the area, you’ll understand why.

Rockfield Cottage is no slouch in the history department either, and, thankfully, its origins are a little more certain. Originally built in the 18th century, the property has been restored by its (adjoining) owners to a very high standard. You’ll find a number of homely charms inside the cottage, which perfectly complement the surrounding by 450 acres of working farmland, not to mention the nearby river.

An open fire, Stanley range cooker and farmhouse style kitchen are just some of the features you might expect from such a beautifully rustic property. However, there are also a few more contemporary comforts to make your stay a little more comfortable. And if you fancy relaxing in the open-air, the lawned grounds contain a terrace and garden furniture.

Rockfield Cottage sleeps 4 contented holidaymakers. Please visit the property’s listing on cottages4you if you’d like more info, or to make a booking.
