101 places to go: Paris

As it’s Valentine’s Day on Monday, it would be remiss of us not to mention the city that practically invented romance, a place where couples can take a romantic stroll by the waterside before enjoying world-class dining experiences in the shadow of a stunning iconic tower. And no, it’s not Blackpool’s turn just yet.

While Paris is filled with activities for romance, its attractions are varied enough to ensure that everyone can find something to enjoy. From culture, food and history to family friendly attractions and festivals, it’s a city with something for everyone.

Here are a couple of our favourites:

• If you’re lacking in visual inspiration (not likely!) on your trip to Paris then look no further than the Louvre museum. As well as being a beautiful building in its own right, the museum houses some of the world’s most beloved works of art. The Mona Lisa and Venus De Milo are just some of the stunning 35,000 pieces of art spread out over the museum’s 60,000 metres.

• That the Eiffel Tower is the most-visited paid monument in the world will come as no surprise to those who’ve climbed it. But along with its obvious physical majesty, the tower also possesses a fascinating history. In short, it’s a must-see.

And if you’re not on a romantic break…

• Disneyland Paris is a must-visit if you’re going away with the family. Spread out over 5 magical lands, the park allows you to meet Mickey, Donald and the rest of the gang, as well as enjoying special daily events and the many rides. Since 2010 Disney Pixar has also joined the fold, so you can now go to the Monsters Inc. Scream Academy as well as “infinity and beyond”.
