The acts will be performing at Cornwall’s Eden Project on July 3rd and tickets for the event go on sale next Tuesday (March 16th).

Those planning on heading to the gig during a Cornwall holiday in the summer will have to pay £35 plus booking fee for each ticket and creative director for Eden Sessions Tjarko Wieringa said he was "really excited" to be adding the duo to the line-up.

"Calvin has been responsible for some of the best club tunes of the past few years and Audio Bullys are set for a return to the big time this summer," he remarked.

Jack Johnson, Mika, Doves and Momford & Sons have already been confirmed to appear at the iconic attraction, which has hosted the sessions for the past nine years.

If you want to check out the Eden Project without heading to any of the gigs, entrance is priced at £16 for adults and £6 for children.

This is according to Birmingham Mail writer Adrian Caffery, who has described it as "one of the finest one-day walks in the country".

Mr Caffery, who tackled the route as part of a Lake District holiday in October last year, said that it offers a number of great sites along the way, including "a series of impressive waterfalls" a large tarn and "wonderful views" of the Langdale Valley.

However, he noted that parts of the walk may be difficult after it has rained, as the trek involves fording a stream.

"On days when the water is high, the crossing can be too hazardous and so some rock scrambling is in order," Mr Caffery warned.

According to Lakeland Landscape, the route is popular among hill walkers, as it is relatively easy but still offers some tricky parts.

This is according to head of Bassenthwaite Reflections Martin Varley, who noted that the body is in the process of organising a number of archaeology and environmental initiatives across the Lakes.

Such schemes may be ideal for those heading for a stay in a Lake District holiday cottage who want to get their fingers dirty.

The programme, which was launched in 2007, has backed 30 projects so far, but is to finish at the end of this year.

And a new survey assessing what people think of the initiative resulted in some overwhelmingly positive results.

"People have said how much they valued getting involved and being part of the legacies we’ll leave behind; a nature reserve, important bridge, footpaths and the list goes on," Mr Varley remarked.

Bassenthwaite Reflections is running a dry stone walling course this weekend, giving visitors the chance to learn a new skill while on a Lake District holiday.

Wylam Brewert has teamed up with Hardian’s Wall Heritage to introduce the pale ale, which went on sale in pubs and bars across the region at the start of this month ahead of the event, which takes place this weekend.

Commenting on the new tipple, Julie Sloan of Hadrian’s Wall Heritage said: "We wanted people to toast Illuminating Hadrian’s Wall with a special local brew to reflect the spirit of the occasion".

He added that the body "jumped at the chance" to work with Wylam Brewery to produce the beverage.

The launch comes after Wylam Brewery introduced a new beer for the Collingwood 2010 Festival, which is running throughout the year in order to mark the 200th anniversary of the death of Admiral Lord Collingwood.

Two Lake District photographs that have made the shortlist in a national competition have been praised by the environment minister.

Huw Irranca-Davies said that the images, taken by Mike Turner of Halifax and Jamie Green from Backbarrow, have done a good job of highlighting how people in the area are helping to preserve the area.

“They show how people enjoy mucking in to help with the environment,” he remarked.

Mr Turner’s image of dry stone walling near Ennerdale Water (left) and Mr Green’s shot of brush burning in Rusland are both in the final of the Garden Photographer of the Year competition after being submitted by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

The pictures may encourage those heading for a stay in a Lake District holiday cottage to take their camera along and try and capture some of the Lakes’ beauty.

People heading to the area will not be short of areas to explore in order to find the perfect spot for their snaps, as the Lake District features more than 3,500 km of rights of way.

At least this is according to News of the World’s Rochelle Warner, who said on the website of the newspaper’s Fabulous magazine that the area’s "pretty villages and stunning countryside" are a big draw.

"Shopaholics can splurge on their credit cards in the villages of Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water, with their craft shops and galleries," she explained, adding that more adventurous types wanting to enjoy the countryside can sample sailing, horse riding, canoeing or windsurfing.

A Cotswolds holiday could also result in some unexpected star-spotting, she noted, as Kate Winslet, Kate Moss and Elizabeth Hurley have all been known to head there to get away from it all, while Princes William and Harry often play polo at Cirencester.

The Cotswolds is also a great place to enjoy traditional British food and drink.

Visitors might want to head to The Crown Inn, which was recently named the South Cotswolds Pub of the Year by the Campaign for Real Ale.

The £10,000 project, which can be found at the Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole, is going ahead after pupils at The Lakes School were asked to give their opinions on the new features of the playground.

Improvement work will get underway this Saturday (March 13th) and is expected to be finished by March 23rd.

Development programme manager at Brockhole Lisa Steward said it was "great fun" getting ideas from pupils at the school.

"I’m sure this development will be another great addition to all the other facilities people love to enjoy at Brockhole," she remarked.

As well as the adventure playground, the area also features plenty of gardens and grounds to explore, as well as a shop and cafe.

The data will be used to assess the size of the pike living in the fourth-largest stretch of water in the Lakes, amid worries that the health of the area is waning.

Chris Tomlin of the Centre of Ecology & Hydrology in Lancaster said past studies have shown a "worrying decline" in the size of the fish, a trend that seems exclusive to Bassenthwaite.

"As pike are top of the fish food chain, they are a good indicator of the health of the lake and, if changes are taking place, it is essential we find out more," he remarked.

He urged anglers to get in touch and provide information about their catches, which helps to give scientists an accurate idea of what is happening under the surface of the lake.

Located north-west of Keswick, Bassenthwaite is the only official lake in the Lake District and is home to the Forestry Commission’s visitor centre, which features numerous walking trails on the eastern side of the water.

The body will be throwing open the doors to the 150-year-old site on April 12th and 13th and holding a number of events in the arboretum, house and gardens.

Demonstrations will be used to explain how the arboretum grew into one of the world’s most important collections of trees and shrubs, while tours and guided walks will be taking place in Westonbirt House and the surrounding gardens.

Project director Miranda Winram explained that "ambitious plans" are underway to open up the estate to more people.

"We plan to increase access to the picturesque grounds and wider parkland; connecting the site and preserving it for the future," she remarked.

All the extra offerings will be included in the standard price of admission to the arboretum, which is currently set at £8 for adults, £7 for concessions and £4 for children.

The zoo has signed up to the 10:10 campaign to reduce its carbon emissions by ten per cent by the end of 2010, the Guardian has explained.

Newquay Zoo attracts 200,000 visitors a year, many of whom will use Cornwall holiday cottages as their base.

It plans to fully insulate its older buildings over the coming 12 months, meaning those who come to see the 534 animals will experience a greener attraction.

Speaking to the newspaper, Newquay Zoo’s environmental officer Ruth Morgan said: "We are now researching how we can mimic the natural temperature variations these animals would experience in the wild without causing them distress. For example, some birds can start to breed if the temperature goes down too low."

The zoo opened in 1969 and has won a number of accolades, including the Silver Visitor Attraction of the Year at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards 2007-08.
