Cornwall”s Victoria Inn ”a great dining pub”

February 2, 2010

Those planning on staying in Cornwall holiday cottages may want to visit the Victoria Inn on their visit to the county.

The pub has been noted as one of the best in the region by the Telegraph”s Cornwall Pub Guide for its efforts to surpass the traditional offerings of gastropubs with its haute cuisine.

Situated near St Michael”s Mount in the village of Perranuthnoe, the Victoria Inn is more of a restaurant with a bar than a pub, according to the guide, selling dishes such as garlic and herb roasted chicken with ratatouille, green beans and pesto.

"At lunchtimes The Vic serves a pared-back menu catering for day-trippers and coastal path walkers. Ciabatta with grilled goat”s cheese, tomato, rocket and pesto shows just how far even the humble ”sarnie” has evolved," the newspaper noted.

Teresa Timms of VisitCornwall recently told Business Cornwall that the standard of entries from restaurants, cafes and other attractions for the Cornwall Tourism Awards gets better every year.

Wales set to get tourism centre boost

February 2, 2010

Outdoor activities could be on the schedule for those staying in Wales holiday cottages this year after tourism centres in Gwynedd announced they are applying for grants.

Visit Wales, the Welsh Assembly Government”s tourism team, is set to make a decision in the few weeks and could offer Blaenau Ffestiniog, Trawsfynydd, Dolgellau and Y Bala sites money to improve their centres.

Family-friendly cycle paths in Dolgellau and a mountain biking venue in Blaenau Ffestiniog could be secured if £1.4 million and £1.3 million respective funding gets the go ahead, the BBC reports.

Ceri Cunnington from local regeneration group Antur Blaenau told the news provider: "Ultimately it would weave the amazing heritage we have here in ”Stiniog with outdoor activities. Instead of walkers just going along with their heads down, we could have them discussing the environment and the history of the town."

Cycling enthusiasts visiting Wales this summer will also be able to take part in the Gore Bike Wear TransWales 2010 competition, which will take place in Powys, in the east of the country.

Spring begins to take hold at Cotswolds attraction

February 2, 2010

It may still seem like an early time of year to head to Cotswolds holiday cottages, but a trip to the region could allow holidaymakers to bask in the first signs of the coming spring.

The Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard reports that Sir Henry Elwes and Lady Carolyn, his wife, are opening up their home, Colesbourne Park, to show off the carpet of snowdrops that has appeared there.

"We”re in for quite a show this year," says Lady Carolyn.

"They should peak around Valentines Day, which is just perfect for couples."

She adds that, while the Cotswolds typically experiences snow for longer each year than other regions, the snowdrops do not appear to have been adversely affected by the recent wintry weather.

Holidaymakers who book Cotswolds holiday cottages for weekends throughout February can expect to gain access to the estate to see the snowdrops for themselves.

Guided tours can also be arranged for weekdays, for groups keen to gain exclusive access to the grounds and see the snowdrops without other people obstructing their view.

Dorset secrets revealed in new Rough Guide

February 2, 2010

The attractions of Dorset holiday cottages are among the revelations in a new Rough Guide to Dorset.

One of the suggestions made in the guide that the region is ideal for anyone from city-dwellers looking to escape their urban playground to travellers going on a trip for the day or for a weekend.

Fears that Dorset might be suited only to the older generation are also dismissed, which could encourage young people planning a trip away to consider Dorset holiday cottages.

A stay in the region”s holiday accommodation could then serve as the basis for an itinerary of festivals and club nights, all in the picturesque surroundings of an area famed for its natural beauty and in growing demand for its surfing.

This year, wildlife is also likely to be abundant thanks to the wet weather, which has helped insects to thrive and in turn led to a boost in populations of insect-feeding animals such as birds, according to the National Trust.

Friendly Fires to headline Dorset festival

February 2, 2010

Friendly Fires fans could find that this summer”s Camp Bestival is the ideal time to book Dorset holiday cottages and see their favourite act in person.

The group has just been named as the Sunday headline act for the festival, which is due to take place on July 30th and 31st and August 1st.

Organisers say: "Already nominated for two Brit awards in 2010, the much-lauded three-piece will put the icing on the cake at Camp Bestival."

They promise a "sublime set of anthemic, disco-flecked dream-pop" from the performers.

People hoping to attend the event should book Dorset holiday cottages in the region nearby to Lulworth Castle.

That is where the festival is due to be staged – with 15,000 tickets available across the full itinerary of performers.

Calling this an "intimate" issue of entry tickets, the organisers suggest that it means Camp Bestival retains the same intimate feel that it had the first time it was staged.
